When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and out in the country. And the demons came out of the man and entered the swine and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain and the demons implored Him to permit them to enter the swine. They were imploring Him not to command them to go away into the abyss. And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion” for many demons had entered him. For it had seized him many times and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert. And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him and everyone was amazed.įor He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him. And they began to implore Him to leave their region. Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine. They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the “legion” and they became frightened. And the people came to see what it was that had happened. Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them and they were drowned in the sea. The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.” Jesus gave them permission. Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain. For I also am a man placed under authority, with soldiers under me and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and turned and said to the crowd that was following Him, “I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.” When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.įor He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is Legion for we are many.” And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country. When they came to Jesus, they earnestly implored Him, saying, “He is worthy for You to grant this to him read more.įor he loves our nation and it was he who built us our synagogue.” Now Jesus started on His way with them and when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to come under my roof for this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders asking Him to come and save the life of his slave. ![]() And a centurion’s slave, who was highly regarded by him, was sick and about to die.
